Our client is seeking a real estate attorney to lead a new project
Compensation is competitive and will be commensurate with experience.
Successful candidate will be able to operate independently and reflect the responsibilities below.
NYC or Western Long Island
Responsibilities Include:
Provide legal support for a broad range of matters - primarily related to real estate.
Negotiate and draft legal documents including LOIs, leases, lease amendments and letter agreements.
Analyze and render opinions on the potential impact of proposed changes to existing lease agreements.
Manage disputes with tenants and other third parties, negotiate resolutions to disputes and prepare settlement agreements. Represent the company and its affiliates or employees in litigation issues and/or in a court of law.
Review real estate documents including leases, property management agreements, partnership agreements, service agreements, environmental reports, and escrow agreements. Analyze and render opinions on real estate issues raised by management.
When necessary, draft property deeds, escrow instructions, corporate resolutions, mechanic’s lien releases, partnership agreements, and other standard real estate documents for pending transactions.
Maintain and distribute legal documents and templates for repetitive use, including added and alternate provisions.
Negotiate, draft, and review construction contracts, including prime contracts, development agreements, design services agreements, and construction management agreements.
Identify opportunities for internal process improvements.
Develop and create “Policies and Procedures” for the production and handling of real estate legal documents.
Minimize liability exposure by document retention, report wrong doing in corporate office.
Determine when, and if necessary, to assign matters to outside counsel. Manage work of outside counsel and associated costs.
Education, Training, and Certifications:
3 – 6 years of major law firm or relevant in-house experience with a demonstrated focus on Real Estate is required.
Solid experience in drafting, negotiating and reviewing legal documents relating to real estate transactions, in particular leasing.
Active membership in good standing with NY Bar is preferred.
Experience in handling real estate disputes (court case or arbitration), real estate financing, employment, construction and/or corporate governance is an asset.
Excellent written and oral communications skills as well as strong organizational and project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment with a strong focus on teamwork.
A strong sense of ethics and fiduciary responsibility.
Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin/ Chinese) is NOT required but an asset.
